Since 1993, Oakland residents have recycled over 100,000 gallons of used motor oil through the Oakland Recycles curbside program!
Curbside Oil and Oil Filter Recycling

Email recycling@oaklandnet.com or call (510) 238-SAVE for a free oil and oil filter recycling kit, featuring two sturdy gallon jugs, instructions, and a special oil filter recycling bag. (Used oil and filters will only be accepted in containers provided by Oakland Recycles.)

Leave the filled jug and securely-sealed bag at the curb next to your recycling cart.

Your recycling company will leave a jug/bag for your next oil change.
Drop-Off Locations for Oil and Oil Filter Recycling
Call (510) 238-SAVE or visit the California Integrated Waste Management Board's used oil website to find an Oakland business near you that will accept your used oil and oil filters. You may collect 16 cents for each gallon of used oil you recycle at state-certified oil recycling centers. Look for this logo:
Other Automotive Fluids and Household Hazardous Waste
Call (800) 606-6606 or visit the Alameda County Household Hazardous Waste Program for information about proper disposal of household hazardous waste such as automotive fluids, batteries, paint, household and garden chemicals. It's easy, free, and the only legal way to dispose of household hazardous waste.
